Q: What business opportunities exist in Bloomington that make it more appealing than other locations?
A: Most of our customers will be from places other than Bloomington, but Bloomington has quite a bit to offer a small startup business in life sciences. It is great to find local partners to serve the general needs for any beginning business (legal, finance, engineering…etc.).
Additionally, the services of inVenture/SBDC, and the Bloomington Economic Development Corporation/Bloomington Life Sciences Partnership are extremely helpful to technology-based businesses in terms of networking opportunities, links to business resources and a strategic plan that looks to expand life sciences in the region. It is one of the reasons the business was established here in Bloomington.
Q: What was the best intentional move you made for the company?
A: Location of the business in Park 48. Having neighbors like Cook, Baxter, Tasus and Ivy Tech provide a stunning backdrop when clients come to visit. Could not tell you the number of times people have come here for the first time and have been blown away with the professional look of the area, and all the amenities that Bloomington has to offer (restaurants, entertainment, small town feel).
Q: If you could, what would you change about your industry?
A: Image. The pharmaceutical industry has a substandard reputation due to the high cost of drugs on the market and seen as very inefficient. It is up to companies like ours to help lower that cost by providing outstanding solutions for our clients who either cannot perform these services in-house or at all.
Q: What sort of relationship do you hope to establish with your clients/customers? How do you plan to achieve this relationship?
A: Our clients include large, medium and small biotech and pharmaceutical companies from all over the globe. We have to be seen as a problem solver for them as a contract services provider and as a new company, we have to do it with quality, speed, trust and transparency. We plan to achieve it by providing top quality services, fast turnaround on projects, reasonable cost structures and using tools like our E-Transparency™ Solution to offer instant access to their data.
Q: What is your greatest concern when you go into the office each morning?
A: Managing the pace of a small business when all of us where many hats. We are in our second year of operations and we are in execution phase. We will probably double our workforce by the end of 2007, so managing the people aspect will be a major challenge for us going forward. But, we keep our chins up and do what we do best for our clients…help them get new products on the market and improve existing drug therapies.
