Delilah’s is not your “run of the mill” pet storePosted by Blog Admin on August 21st, 2008 |

Delilahs Pet Shop at 17th and College in Bloomington, is not your run of the mill pet store. Absolutely the opposite. Owner Karene Kidwell talked to us at Grow Bloomington recently, and pointed out her feelings about animals, and how their store’s policy is so unique. Karene hosts a website in addition to the store website called “My Itchy Dog.com” where she brings her lifetime of experience to helping the public with problems with their dogs. She does not pretend to be a veterinarian, but tells us that most problems that she sees with dogs hair coat problems, etc., come from proper nutrition. At Delilah’s they sell only animal/pet food that is organic, does not contain fillers, sugar or preservatives, which can change the health of your pet in many ways. People traditionally do not understand that many dog foods may contain dangerous chemicals, preservatives, fillers such as corn husks, artificial flavoring, all of which can contribute to problems with their hair coat, or health in general. Karene goes on to say that even if the brand is a little more expensive, the animal will eat less, because it gains more nutrients from the amount it eats. Of course, if you have a spoiled pet, it will take some work! Karene’s own daughter Leslie, who also works in the store, quipped, “if your child had been eating Snickers Bars for dinner every night, and you laid out some broccoli and chicken, which do you think they’d choose on their own?”
Delilah’s is also owned by Harry Kidwell, who prefers to lord over the Fish department. Anyone who loves fish, should at the very least come down to see the wonderful coral, and live rock that Delilah’s has in their saltwater environments. Delilah’s fish department is also a vast source of knowledge, and even has a resident expert who even makes house calls, and can design layouts for business or home.
One last thing that Karene wanted to make clear about Delilah’s is that they do not buy puppies from “puppy mills”. She points out that they make sure to educate prospective pet owners on all the aspects of their new addition to the family, before the pet leaves the store. They also have a policy to be clear that should something not work out, they will take the animal back, and find it a good home. Karene and Harry want to let everyone know that they take their business seriously, and care very much about animals, and want to support these wonderful relationships between pets and their owners.
