Indiana’s Beer at the Upland BreweryPosted by Blog Admin on August 27th, 2008 |

From its inception, UBC has planned for growth. The largest microbrewery in Indiana, Upland employs two 60 barrel fermenters (King and Kong) and two 30 barrel fermenters. A mash tun, boiling kettle, hot-storage tanks, and smaller R-2 units affectionately called “Grundys” for building yeast cultures, constitute the working metal, and several large conditioning tanks and a bottling machine round out the plant–all in glorious stainless steel.
On a monthly basis, five different styles are regularly brewed: Wheat, Amber, Pale, Dragonfly IPA, and Bad Elmer’s Porter. In addition, Seasonal Styles are brewed, well, seasonally. They include Oktoberfest, Winter Warmer, Chocolate Stout, Ard Ri Irish-style Imperial Red Ale, Weizen, Schwarz and Maibock. We also produce a Belgian-style “farmstead” Saison ale in the late Spring.
Caleb Staton heads up the six-member, full-time brew crew. For a closer look at the crew at work, take our virtual tour. We also offer guided tours. Come alone or with a group, give us a call at (812)336-BEER and we’ll set up a tour and tasting!
